A rare and truly exceptional opportunity has arisen to become the resident Housekeeper of a magnificent, recently refurbished Grade 1 listed country estate set in the breathtaking landscape of Staffield, Cumbria. Staffield is a small and remarkably peaceful hamlet in the Eden Valley of Cumbria, situated within the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty — one of England's largest and most protected landscapes. The estate is managed by a professional and experienced team and the successful candidate will join a small but dedicated core team that includes a full-time gardener and seasonal staff during the estate's busiest periods.The property is a stunning nine to ten bedroom residence currently undergoing sympathetic refurbishment and renovation, and the role demands a professional of considerable experience, adaptability, and genuine pride in their craft.
The estate's rhythm is shaped by the shooting season — running from the 12th of August through to early December for grouse and low ground shooting — during which the principals and their guests are regularly in residence and the household is at its most active and dynamic. Outside of these periods the workload is lighter.
This is a live-in role in a remote location, and a driving licence with your own vehicle is absolutely essential. The live-in accommodation provided is excellent — a private property situated immediately adjacent to the main house. All utilities are covered as part of the package, providing the successful candidate with a genuinely comfortable and private home within the grounds of this remarkable estate.

- Delivering meticulous day-to-day cleaning, tidying, and household management across a large nine to ten bedroom residence
- Ensuring the property is kept in a state of constant and immaculate readiness for the principals' arrivals, ensuring every room is fully prepared and welcoming at a moment's notice
- Preparing basic meals for the principals and their immediate party when in residence ahead of, or independently of, the professional chef who attends during peak shooting season events
- Acting as the central point of contact and coordination for external contractors, seasonal staff, and the on-site gardening team
- Seamlessly transitioning between independent, self-managed operation during quieter periods and the management of a fully active and bustling household during the shooting season
- Maintaining all fine furnishings, period features, antiques, and high-value surfaces throughout the property
- Managing all laundry, ironing, pressing, and linen management to an exceptional standard
- Managing guest bedrooms to a hotel-quality standard of presentation and readiness ahead of the principals' and guests' arrivals
- Overseeing and maintaining all household supplies and inventory management throughout
- Liaising with the gardener and core estate team to ensure the property and its grounds are consistently well-maintained and secure during the principals' absences
Minimal Requirements:
- Five or more years of private Housekeeper experience
- Two excellent, checkable references from previous private employers
- UK driving licence + own car
- Conversational English
- Valid right to work in the United Kingdom
- DBS check
