PERMANENT LIVE-IN DOMESTIC COUPLE

Salary: £50,000–£55,000 Gross per Year, depending on experience
A private family based in the beautiful West Sussex countryside is seeking an experienced and reliable Domestic Couple to join their household on a permanent, live-in basis, ideally from 1 October 2026.
The principals are a couple residing at a private country property set within approximately 60 acres of grounds and woodland. The property includes several acres of formal gardens and has recently undergone extensive restoration.
The professional responsible for the gardening and handyman duties will take primary responsibility for the gardens, following the principal's wife's direction regarding planting and the ongoing development of the garden. The role will also include assisting with the general upkeep of the extensive grounds and woodland, as well as practical handyman duties around the property.
The other member of the couple will undertake approximately 15 hours of housekeeping per week, maintaining the main residence to a good standard and assisting with occasional entertaining. No daily cooking is required, although the couple may occasionally be asked to assist with serving and waiting at the table during private dinners.
The family has a friendly Golden Retriever, and the successful couple will be expected to assist with the dog's care when the principals are away or dining out. The couple will be provided with their own private two-to-three-bedroom cottage on the estate, with utilities included. Due to the rural location, a driving licence and access to a private vehicle are highly advantageous.

Working Hours: Approximately 40 hours per week for the Gardener/Handyman and 15 hours per week for the Housekeeper

Main duties of the Domestic Couple:
Gardener / Handyman
- Maintain several acres of formal gardens to a high standard.
- Carry out general gardening duties, including lawn care, planting and ongoing garden maintenance.
- Take direction from the principal's wife regarding planting and the development of the gardens.
- Assist with the general upkeep of the property's extensive grounds and woodland.
- Undertake general handyman and practical maintenance duties around the property.
- Assist with minor household maintenance issues, including heating, electrical matters and other practical requirements.
- Assist with occasional airport transfers when required.
- Report any significant maintenance issues and arrange professional assistance where necessary.
Housekeeper
- Maintain the main residence to a good standard of cleanliness and presentation.
- Undertake approximately 15 hours of housekeeping per week.
- Carry out general cleaning, dusting, vacuuming, mopping, laundry and ironing.
- Assist with occasional private entertaining and table service when required.
- Assist with the care of the family's friendly Golden Retriever when the principals are away or dining out.
- Ensure the household is well presented and organised.
- Maintain a discreet and respectful approach to the family's privacy.
Requirements for this Domestic Couple job:
- Previous private household or Domestic Couple experience is essential.
- Full UK driving license
- Pet-friendly
- Professional, discreet, trustworthy and dependable.
- Non-smokers only.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Eligible to work in the UK.
- Excellent checkable references.
