A wonderful opportunity has arisen for an experienced, dependable, and self-motivated private Housekeeper to join a beautiful modern family home nestled in the charming and peaceful hamlet of Mugdock, near Milngavie in East Dunbartonshire. Set within one of Scotland's most picturesque rural landscapes, Mugdock sits just minutes from the breathtaking Mugdock Country Park and is within easy reach of Glasgow city centre.
The household is a well-maintained, modern private home, comprising five bedrooms, five en-suite bathrooms, and two additional bathrooms across multiple floors. The principal family splits their time between the UK and their residences abroad, and the household is also home to a grown-up son who resides at the property. The family are looking for a trustworthy, reliable, and experienced Housekeeper who can take genuine ownership of the home and maintain it beautifully whether the family are in residence or away. A warm, cat-friendly approach is also essential, as the household has two beloved cats.
The role calls for someone who is proactive, professional, and takes genuine pride in the homes they care for. The successful candidate will be the trusted anchor of this household — maintaining its immaculate presentation, liaising with the principal remotely, coordinating local contractors, and ensuring the home is always in perfect order, whether freshly welcoming the family home or maintaining the highest standards during their absence.
As this is a rural location with no public transport through the village — though just a five-minute drive to the local town of Milngavie — a full clean driving licence and access to a personal vehicle are essential requirements for all applicants.

The Duties:
- Maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and presentation throughout a large modern private home across multiple floors, including all bedrooms, bathrooms, and communal areas
- Rotating weekly cleaning schedule across floors and zones — for example, downstairs one day and the upper floors the next — to maintain a consistent standard throughout
- Thorough hoovering of all carpeted and soft-furnishing areas, including sofas and upholstered furniture, and ensuring all cushions are well-presented and plumped
- Mopping of all tiled and hardwood flooring using the correct and designated cleaning solutions for each surface type — neutral detergent on tiles; appropriate wood-safe solution on hardwood floors
- Damp dusting of all surfaces throughout the property
- Bed linen changes as required, and coordination of bed linen drops to and collections from local laundry facilities
- Emptying and loading the dishwasher, and wiping down all kitchen units and surfaces using the appropriate neutral detergent solution
- Monitoring and coordinating window cleaning with the local window cleaner on behalf of the principal
- Liaising with the principal remotely regarding the general upkeep, condition, and any maintenance requirements of the property
- Providing attentive and loving daily care for the household's two cats, including feeding, litter tray management, and general welfare
- Washing and ironing of household items as required (a local service is also used — flexibility around this is appreciated)
- Reporting any maintenance issues or household concerns to the principal promptly
Minimal Requirements:
- Five or more years of private domestic Housekeeping experience
- Two excellent, checkable references from previous private household employers
- Conversational and written English
- Valid right to work in the United Kingdom
- Driving licence and personal vehicle — essential for this rural location
- Cat-friendly and comfortable around household pets
