Job Overview:
Perfect Household Staff is proud to present a rare and rewarding opportunity for a professional Head Housekeeper to join a literary retreat that was established to offer a tranquil environment where creative people can focus on their work without disruptions. It operates for 10 months annually and accommodates 6 writers simultaneously, with each residency lasting only 4 weeks.
This is a permanent, full-time, live-out position. It is important to note that the workload is limited and predictable, with intense operational focus only during the sessions. A professional's active working period would be approximately 24 to 25 weeks per year. Each working week consists of 5 shifts from 7.30am to 3.30pm in accordance with the rota. Outside of the residency periods, the house is maintained in a standby state, with minimal activity and reduced demands on the housekeeper’s time.
We are seeking a polished and experienced Head Housekeeper who can lead with confidence, maintain immaculate standards of cleanliness and order, and provide calm, consistent oversight of a small domestic team.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead daily housekeeping operations and maintain high standards of hygiene and order throughout the property
- Supervise and coordinate a small support team (1 housekeeper, 1 head cook, 1 assistant cook)
- Prepare guest rooms and communal areas before and during residency sessions
- Conduct full housekeeping and light cleaning of all internal spaces
- Monitor and manage cleaning stock and housekeeping supplies
- Oversee simple kitchen organisation and liaise with kitchen staff to ensure smooth coordination of meals and supplies
- Receive and coordinate deliveries and help prepare the house for special events or guest arrivals
Candidate Requirements:
- Minimum 3-5 years' housekeeping experience in a similar private environment
- Strong References
- UK work permit
- Previous supervisory or team-leading experience strongly preferred
- Strong time management and organisational skills
- Discretion and integrity when dealing with confidential household matters
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work harmoniously with others
